Happy, Happy Tuesday! One day closer to the weekend and Monday is no more!
I have heard and read this quote from various sources, including Lily Tomlin – actress, Viola Davis – actress, Jack Kornfield, PhD.
“Forgiveness is giving up all hope for/of a better/different past.”
So very insightful! It makes me wonder does one ever truly forgive, in that case. My faith says that we must all forgive as we are also forgiven, but I never delved so deeply into the true definition of forgiveness. I figured that I have forgiven someone if I don’t harp on what they have done or hold it against them. That is hard enough, in itself. To give up all hope for a different past means no looking back. In biblical times, Lot’s wife looked back, after she was instructed not to do so, and was turned into a pillar of salt (Genesis 19:26). Metaphorically speaking, how often have we added salt to our wounds by looking back (even in our thoughts) on what could have been?
