Creature of Habit or Nomad?

I recently participated in a rather insightful conversation regarding our natural tendencies, as humans. There are those of us who are self-proclaimed ‘creatures of habit’, while there are others who choose to travel through life, figuratively speaking, never sitting still. I believe this is a personal choice, and I find it very intriguing. What personality traits cause one to crave a sense of normalcy and consistency, while another needs spontaneity and unpredictability?

There is something to be said for taking chances in life and not constantly feeling the need to have your whole life planned and accounted for. For one thing, as mortals, we understand that tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. In recent years, many catchy sayings have been in heavy rotation, such as: YOLO (you only live once).

I am a true creature of habit. I long for the stability that comes from predictability, yet I live vicariously through the lives of others, who don’t require or desire such commonality.

I have found that we tend to make choices based on our level of comfort, not fully taking into account our actual needs. How do you choose to live?
